Understanding Proprietary Fire Alarm Systems presented by Telgian’s Tom Parrish

Telgian’s Vice President Tom Parrish will present the Fire Smarts “Understanding Proprietary Fire Alarm Systems” webinar on Thursday, March 19, 2020 from 2:00 pm – 3:30 pm Eastern (including Q&A time). This course provides an understanding of proprietary fire alarm systems and how they compare to systems available through open distribution.

During this webinar, Parrish will discuss the fire alarm equipment distribution channels in the United States and the advantages and disadvantages to consider when selecting a proprietary system. The webinar will also cover what functionality is generally standard across most fire alarm systems and the additional functionality found in certain proprietary fire alarm systems.

In addition, cost considerations will be reviewed, as well an examination of both installation and ongoing maintenance of a fire alarm system.

Learning Objectives include learning the difference between proprietary and open distribution fire alarm systems, as well as understanding what standard functionality is typical across all fire alarm systems. At the conclusion of the webinar, attendees will also be able to identify system functionality that may require a proprietary fire alarm system, as well as understand the cost factors involved when considering a proprietary system.

An experienced instructor and presenter, Parrish has more than 25 years of experience in fire protection and emergency response. He has held multiple positions with municipal fire, law enforcement and emergency medical services, as well as in private industry fire alarm system design and installation programs.

In addition, Parrish is a Board Member of the Automatic Fire Alarm Association (AFAA) and is a senior instructor for NFPA. His professional credentials include Level IV NICET Certified Fire Alarm Technician, Level III NICET Inspections and Testing, Certified Fire Protection Specialist and Master Electrician. 

He is board-certified as a Physical Security Professional by ASIS and the current Fire Marshal at Putnam Township Fire Department in Pinckney, Michigan.
