Telgian Engineering & Consulting fire protection expert Mike Valkenaar, CET will present a Fire Smarts “Fire Alarm System Replacement webinar” on December 21, 2023, from 2:00 pm – 3:30 pm ET.
Valkenaar has over 20 years of experience in low voltage systems for fire protection and security and is a designer at Telgian Engineering & Consulting. He has extensive experience as a technician, installer, plan reviewer and designer of fire alarm systems for various occupancy types, including complex multi-story and mixed-use structures and holds a Level III NICET Fire Alarm Systems certification.
“An important decision for facilities managers is when to replace a fire alarm system rather than continue to perform repairs,” says Valkenaar. “This course will focus on understanding when a fire alarm system replacement should be considered and best practices for performing an upgrade.”
Common repair situations that lead to a system upgrade will be discussed including what information is needed to make an informed decision. A review of applicable codes and documentation requirements for replacing a fire alarm system will be covered along with design considerations such as wiring, proprietary equipment and monitoring communication methods.
