This week, a second group of Telgian associates volunteered at the Arizona Burn Center to create “chip bags” which help prevent edema in burn patients during treatment and recovery. It is essential for burn victims to reduce swelling from edema as soon as possible. If left untreated, edema can increase pain, make it difficult to move, cause stiffness or deformity of joints, as well as interfere with the normal functioning of muscles, nerves and blood vessels. Edema can also cause a superficial burn to deepen.
This day of volunteering is just one facet of Telgian’s larger commitment to the Arizona Burn Center – Valleywise Health. For example, the company recent held a Flip Flop Drive for patients who were being discharged without suitable shoes during an excessive heat wave. The Drive was held in response to an emergency need for shoes so that vulnerable patients could be safely discharged without the threat of contact burns from the pavement.
The Arizona Burn Center is the state’s only nationally verified burn center, providing critically injured burn patients with one of the highest survival rates in the entire nation.
