NFPA 13 ‘Standard for the Installation of Sprinkler Systems’ has undergone major revisions in the 2022 edition. These include revisions related to the use of inert gas with dry pipe sprinkler systems to control corrosions, the elimination of area/density curves, and the incorporation of single-point densities for new sprinkler systems protecting storage commodities, as well as new requirements for the protection of multiple-rack storage configurations. To explain these changes, fire protection industry expert Ralph Bless will present the Fire Smarts NFPA 13: 2022 Edition Revisions Webinar on May 12, 2022, 2:00 pm – 3:30 pm (Eastern).
This course will cover the major revisions that represent best practices for the design and installation of fire sprinkler systems. Bless will also address some proposed revisions which were not accepted by the technical committees, in order to help attendees understand the thinking and intent behind the revisions which were accepted.
Bless has more than 39 years of experience in the fire protection industry, which includes a broad range of water-based and special hazard system design, code consulting and fire protection engineering services. He is licensed as a Professional Engineer in six states, a Certified Fire Protection Specialist, Level IV NICET senior fire sprinkler layout technician and holds four additional NICET certifications, as well as ten state licenses.
Bless chairs the NFPA technical committee for Record Storage, NFPA 232, and serves on the NFPA technical committees for Building Systems and Special Occupancies (NFPA 1 – Fire Code); Installation (NFPA 13); Correlating (NFPA 13); Water Spray Systems (NFPA 15); and Remote Inspections (NFPA 915).
He is also is a sought-after author and has published numerous articles on related fire and life topics.
