Ray Dotts, fire protection expert at Telgian Engineering & Consulting, will present a Fire Smarts webinar on “Carbon Monoxide Detection Requirements” on October 8, 2026, from 2:00 pm – 3:30 pm Eastern.

Carbon Monoxide (CO) is a colorless, odorless, tasteless and toxic gas produced as a by-product of combustion. Any fuel burning appliance, vehicle, tool or other device has the potential to produce dangerous levels of CO gas. This presentation provides an overview of CO detection requirements based on NFPA 72 ‘Standard for the National Fire Alarm and Signaling Code’. Common requirements for new and existing commercial structures will be covered as well as a discussion on the initial acceptance testing requirements contained in the standards. Participants will learn how the building code and NFPA 72 requirements impact CO detection systems and the growing adoption and enforcement of these requirements.

ABOUT THE INSTRUCTOR: Ray Dotts, SET

Ray Dotts has more than 40 years of industry experience including fire alarm design and installation experience.

Ray holds fire alarm licenses from multiple states and is a Level IV NICET Certified Fire Alarm Technician. He has conducted large-scale fire alarm projects for all levels of commercial, educational, hospitality and multi-family residential buildings.
