Fire, security, and life safety services provider Telgian Corporation today announced that Vice President of Integrated Systems Tom Parrish, SET, CFPS, PSP, will present at the Fire Marshals and Inspectors Seminar October 20-23. The seminar will be held at the Academy of Fire Science, an office of Homeland Security and Emergency Services, in Montour Falls, New York. Parrish will present on the topic “Understanding NFPA 25: Misunderstood, Misinterpreted and Misapplied.”
NFPA 25 is the National Fire Protection Association standard for the inspection, testing, and maintenance of water-based fire protection systems. While adoption of the standard is prevalent throughout the United States, its scope and purpose are widely misunderstood and its application widely misapplied. The presentation will provide information on NFPA’s intended purpose of eliminating system failures, reasons behind its specific scope and how inspections and tests are geared to meet these limits. The presentation will take place on Oct. 22, 2015, from 4 to 5 p.m. EDT.
Parrish has more than 25 years of experience in fire protection and emergency response. At Telgian, he leads the company’s efforts for jurisdictional compliance, research and development, serves on the training and code development committees, and manages the internal security and life safety program for all Telgian facilities. He has held positions with municipal fire, law enforcement and emergency medical services and in private industry system design and installation programs. Today, Parrish still serves as an on-call firefighter certified in firefighting, emergency medical treatment and hazardous materials response.
“Understanding NFPA 25 and how it translates into real world applications for the properties under their jurisdiction, is essential for Fire Marshals and Inspectors,” said Parrish. “I look forward to the opportunity to share information with those to help them understand the scope and purpose of NFPA 25.”
Parrish represents Telgian on several National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) technical committees and is a regular presenter at various industry conferences and meetings for Telgian. His extensive professional credentials include Level IV NICET Certified Fire Alarm Technician, Level III NICET Inspections and Testing and Master Electrician. He is board certified as a Physical Security Professional by ASIS and holds a bachelor’s in Industrial Technology from the Kean University of New Jersey.
