Telgian’s Kyle Smith to present NFPA 3000 at SFPE Greater Atlanta Fire Safety ConferenceKyle Smith, Senior Hazmat Consultant for Telgian Engineering & Consulting and Battalion Chief of Cobb County Fire & Emergency, will be a featured speaker at the 2020 SFPE Greater Atlanta Fire Safety Conference. The event, slated for March 10-11, offers attendees the opportunity to learn from some of the fire protection industry’s foremost experts. Smith’s March 11 presentation (Session 1B) is entitled “Understanding NFPA 3000 ASHER Program – Standard for an Active Shooter / Hostile Event Response.” Developed by the National Fire Protection Association, NFPA 3000 is an essential new tool designed to help prepare for, and deal with, the threat of hostile events.

As hostile events continue to occur across the United States and around the globe, it is critical for first responders, emergency personnel, facility managers, hospitals and community members to have the information they need in order to be truly prepared. The purpose of NFPA 3000 is to identify the minimum program elements necessary for organizing, managing and sustaining an active shooter or hostile event response program, as well as to reduce the risks, effect and impact on an organization or community affected by these events.

“The Standard provides for preparation, response and recovery,” explains Smith.  “If one takes a realistic look at the solutions for this complex issue, the answer becomes clear. A holistic approach is required.”

During the presentation, Smith will review the NFPA 3000 Standard and its primary sections. In addition, attendees will learn about pre-incident planning needs and realistic solutions for facilities, AHJ risk assessment and planning, community and response plan management. Response planning for Police, Fire and EMS Agencies will be covered, as well.
