Telgian’s Ben Young to present “Fire Sprinkler Design for Non-Designers” Seminar at American Fire Sprinkler Association (AFSA) Schuylkill ChapterTelgian Engineering & Consulting Fire Suppression Designer Ben Young will present a seminar entitled “It Depends: Fire Sprinkler Design for Non-Designers” on March 21 at the American Fire Sprinkler Association (AFSA) Schuylkill Chapter in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. The presentation will cover important fire sprinkler design considerations for those without a design background. This seminar is a must-attend event for sales or project management employees, service and inspection personnel, or for those interested in transferring a project from sales to design.

The presentation will include discussion regarding occupancy hazard classification basics, head location and spacing, special sprinklers, obstructions and temperature issues, as well as basic water supply analysis, information needed to complete drawings and calculations, plus basic survey tips and tricks. The event will conclude with a Q&A session.

As an experienced Fire Suppression Designer with over 18 years in the fire protection industry, Young’s expertise includes design of fire sprinklers, alarms, and special hazards systems in both new construction and retrofit applications. Young has worked throughout the East Coast and internationally as a commissioning agent, inspector, designer, plan reviewer, and design manager. He is NICET certified in three fire protection subfields: Water-Based Systems Layout (III), Special Hazards (I), and Inspection and Testing of Water-Based Systems (II). In addition, Ben has held multiple state licenses throughout the Mid-Atlantic.

Young is a member of NFPA, SFPE, and ASCET. He is a Director for the Philadelphia-Delaware Valley SFPE Chapter and Vice-Chair for AFSA Schuylkill Chapter, and has been involved with the Delaware and South Jersey ASCET chapters.
