Telgian Executive Chairman Russell Leavitt will be a featured guest speaker at the upcoming Louisiana Fire Sprinkler Association (LFSA) Chapter Meeting. The event, which is scheduled for July 23, 2019, will be held at the Louisiana State Fire Marshal’s Office in Baton Rouge, LA. Leavitt’s presentation, NFPA 20 (2016 Edition): Fire Pumps, focuses on the installation of stationary fire pumps and the requirements of the 2016 edition of NFPA 20. Fire pumps are the heart of a fire protection system and Leavitt’s seminar explores pump types, electric motor and diesel engine drivers, along with their associated controllers. In addition, installation requirements for fire pumps will be reviewed.
Upon completion of this course, participants should be able to explain the organization of NFPA 20, describe the various types of fire pumps, locate and apply the basic installation requirements for stationary fire pumps, drivers, and controllers. This seminar benefits anyone who specifies, installs, or inspects stationary fire pumps.
With over 38 years of experience, Leavitt is uniquely qualified to present this “NFPA 20 (2016 Edition): Fire Pumps” seminar. In addition to serving on the Board of Directors for NFPA, he is the organization’s 2nd-Vice Chair. He is also the Chair of the NFPA 13 Technical Committee for Fire Sprinkler System Discharge Criteria, a Principal Member of the NFPA Technical Committee for Installation and a Principal Member of NFPA 3, 4, and 25.
Leavitt is also a non-voting member of the Automatic Sprinkler Correcting Committee and represents NFPA 13 on the Technical Committee for NFPA 909 (Code for the Protection of Cultural Resource Properties) and 914 (Code for the Protection of Historic Structures).
In addition to the Louisiana Fire Sprinkler Association (LFSA) Chapter Meeting, Leavitt conducts seminars both nationally and internationally on a variety of fire and life safety related subjects. He has also authored numerous industry articles and training materials including the American Fire Sprinkler Association (AFSA) Beginning Inspector Training Program and the AFSA Online Hydraulics Training Program. As well, Leavitt is a major contributor to several NFPA Handbooks and has served as the subject matter expert for numerous NFPA live and online training programs.
