Stephen Tamburello, P.E., and Project Manager at Telgian Engineering & Consulting, will present a Fire Smarts webinar on “Performance-Based Approaches to Egress” on June 16, 2025 from 2:00 pm – 3:30 pm ET.
This course covers when, where, and how to consider and apply performance-based egress approaches when unable to meet the code-prescribed egress. Participants will learn how performance-based approaches are equivalent protection to following the prescriptive code and how they may work better for specific applications. The presenter will provide specific examples such as changes in occupancy of existing facilities, adaptive reuse and renovation, and upgrades to historic buildings. New structures will also be covered when performance-based egress may help better achieve the architect’s vision for the project. A review of how to work with the authority having jurisdiction to obtain approval will also be discussed.
Stephen Tamburello has been involved in various projects from light hazard commercial to unique structures using performance based design. Stephen’s expertise includes fire protection system design, code consulting, acceptance testing, water supply evaluations and hazardous materials assessments. He is a licensed professional engineer and holds a Master’s in Fire Protection Engineering from the University of Maryland. Stephen serves as a committee member of NFPA 101 and NFPA 5000 and is an active member of the Society of Fire Protection Engineers (SPFE).
