Telgian fire protection expert, Luke Porter, will present a Fire Smarts webinar on “Fire Pump Fundamentals” on April 10, 2025 from 2:00 pm – 3:30 pm ET.

Fire pumps play a critical role in meeting the fire protection demands of many sprinkler systems. This course discusses the basics of using a fire pump with a fire sprinkler system such as what type of fire pumps are available, why are they used in fire protection, when are they needed, and how do they work. This includes an overview of the impacts of the available water supply and some of the design considerations related to the size and performance of the fire pump. Finally, the presenter will briefly discuss the importance of regular inspection, testing and maintenance of the fire pump to ensure proper operation.

Luke Porter is a Fire Suppression Designer for Telgian Engineering & Consulting and holds a degree in Fire Protection and Safety Engineering Technology from Oklahoma State University. He has been involved in various engineering and construction projects with emphasis on water supply analysis, hydraulic calculations, use of fire pumps and water storage tanks, as well as seismic bracing requirements for fire sprinkler systems.
