COVID-19 Fire and Life Safety Issues Facing Facilities ManagersTelgian Corporation Vice President Tom Parrish, SET, CFPS, PSP recently shared his fire protection knowledge and expertise in the article “COVID-19 Sparks Fire and Life Safety Issues for Facilities Managers” in Facility Management magazine. Parrish offered expert insight into the fire safety concerns that facilities managers are facing around the globe, during the pandemic.

“Keeping employees, customers and visitors safe from the COVID-19 is understandably a manager’s immediate concern. Despite the pandemic, there are other safety issues, such as fire safety, which remain critical the successful functioning of the facility,” says Parrish.

In the piece, Parrish discusses the concept of “essential services” and what is needed, from a fire protection standpoint, in order to keep the people in facilities, as well as the stock of materials, safe.

In addition, fire protection maintenance challenges and solutions are explored, as well as new fire risk threats brought on by new processes, social distancing, and storage changes.

“While COVID-19 has created many new challenges for commercial facilities managers, the need to maintain fire safety, even during this unprecedented time, remains essential. Extra precautions, awareness of new hazards, and an adherence to an inspections and maintenance schedule will ensure that a facility will be safe and operational for years to come.”
