Fire protection for warehouses utilizing Automated Storage and Retrieval Systems (ASRS), Telgian Engineering & Consulting

Telgian fire protection expert Tracey Bellamy, PE, CFPS, CWBSP will present a Fire Smarts “Automatic Storage and Retrieval Systems (ASRS) Fire Risk” online training opportunity on September 16, 2021 from 2:00 pm – 3:30 pm Eastern. The ASRS Fire Risk webinar will explore the expanding use of ASRS in retail, warehousing and distribution facilities, creating new fire risks which must be considered.

This webinar is part of the monthly Fire Smarts series which explores timely fire protection industry topics and innovation solutions. Each event is taught by an industry-leading expert, such as Bellamy.

As a veteran instructor and speaker, Bellamy has more than 30 years of experience in the fire protection industry as a Fire Protection Engineer, Certified Fire Protection Specialist, and Certified Water-Based System Professional. His background includes fire suppression system design, fire hazard analysis, and fire protection system inspection, as well as fire safety systems testing.  An industry leader, he serves on several NFPA technical and correlating committees including NFPA 11, 13, 15, 16, 25, 30, 30B, 101 and 5000 (building code).

During the ASRS Fire Risk webinar, Bellamy will conduct a review of several notable fires involving ASRS in order to illustrate the importance of proper fire protection with these systems. Participants will learn about the types of ASRS structures including mini-load, shuttle-loading, vertically enclosed and top-loading, as well as learn about various container types.

In addition, he will introduce provisions in NFPA 13 ‘Standard for the Installation of Sprinkler Systems’ and FMDS 8-34 related to ASRS in order to emphasize the need for proper fire protection in coordination with the use of these systems.

At the conclusion of the event, attendees will understand the fire risk associated with automatic storage and retrieval systems and will be able to determine when specific fire protection is needed for ASRS mini-load, shuttle-loading, vertically enclosed and top-loading type systems. In addition, participants will be able to recognize existing provisions within NFPA 13 and FMDS 8-34 and the importance of proper fire protection coordination when using ASRS.

Certificate of Completion

Each participant registered, attending the full live training webinar or viewing the post-live recorded on-demand webinar, will receive a Certificate of Completion. This certificate will include the participants name, training subject, date, number of training hours completed and the Fire Smarts name, address and phone number.

Certificates will comply with International Code Council (ICC) CEU requirements for ICC approved training courses. Fire Smarts is an approved training provider of the ICC. ICC CEU’s are assigned based on 0.1 CEU per training contact hour.

Automatic Storage and Retrieval Systems (ASRS) Fire RiskCertificates can be used as supporting documentation for CPD points required for NICET certification. This applies to the “Additional Education” section of NICET Policy #30 on Continuing Professional Development that allows for CPD points for education to advance, broaden and enhance technical knowledge and job skills.

In addition, certificates can be used as supporting documentation for credit hours required for re-certification as part of the Pennsylvania Uniform Construction Code (UCC) program. Continuing education credit is determined as one credit per training contact hour.

Certificates can also be used as supporting documentation for continuing education (CE) hours for Texas Commission on Fire Protection certifications. Fire Smarts is a continuing education source under “Nationally Recognized Training Providers.” Continuing education hours are determined as one CE hour per training contact hour.
