Carbon Monoxide (CO) is a colorless, odorless, tasteless, and toxic gas produced as a by-product of combustion. Any fuel-burning appliance, vehicle, tool, or other device has the potential to produce dangerous levels of CO gas.
This presentation provides an overview of CO detection requirements based on NFPA 720 Standard for the Installation of Carbon Monoxide (CO) Detection and Warning Equipment. Common requirements for new and existing commercial structures will be covered, as well as discussion on the initial acceptance testing requirements contained in the standards.
Participants will also learn how the building code, NFPA 72, and NFPA 720 requirements impact CO detection systems and the growing adoption and enforcement of these requirements.

About the Presenter Ralph Bless, P.E., SET, CFPS

Ralph is licensed as a Professional Engineer in six states, is a Level IV NICET senior fire sprinkler layout technician, and holds several state and national certifications including Certified Fire Protection Specialist. He also chairs the NFPA 232, Technical Committee for Record Storage and serves as a Primary Member of the NFPA 15 Technical Committees for Water Spray Systems. In addition, Ralph is an Alternate Member of the NFPA 13 Correlating Committee.
