Luke Porter, a fire protection engineer at Telgian Engineering & Consulting (TEC), will present a Fire Smarts webinar on “Fire Pump Basics and NFPA 20 Requirements” on August 13, 2026, from 2:00 pm – 3:30 pm Eastern.

Gain a practical introduction to the operating principles and installation requirements of centrifugal fire pumps based on NFPA 20. This webinar will explore the purpose and application of fire pumps, key terminology, and the various types of approved centrifugal fire pumps used in fire protection systems.

Participants will learn how pump assembly components are sized, how flow and pressure impact system performance, and the essential considerations for suction and discharge piping arrangements. The course also covers approved methods for controlling maximum discharge pressure in centrifugal fire pump installations.

ABOUT THE INSTRUCTOR:  Luke Porter, P.E.

Luke Porter is a licensed Professional Engineer with Telgian Engineering & Consulting. He earned a degree in Fire Protection and Safety Engineering Technology from Oklahoma State University and has extensive experience in fire protection engineering and construction.

Luke’s expertise includes water supply analysis, hydraulic calculations, fire pump applications, water storage tank design, and seismic bracing requirements for fire sprinkler systems. He has contributed to a wide range of engineering and construction projects, helping clients develop reliable and code-compliant fire protection systems.
