Julian Smith, Assistant Regional Practice Leader at Telgian Engineering & Consulting, will present a Fire Smarts webinar on “Qualified Persons in NFPA 72: Certification, Competency, and Industry Trends” on October 16, 2025 from 2:00 pm – 3:30 pm ET.
This course will provide an overview of NFPA 72 requirements for fire alarm system personnel qualifications. Attendees will learn to identify the roles, responsibilities, and competency levels of key personnel, including designers, installers, testers, and maintenance staff. The presenter will also highlight relevant industry certifications, such as NICET, IMSA, and ESA, and their role in ensuring qualified personnel.
Julian Smith has over 20 years in the fire protection industry and has extensive experience with all aspects of fire alarm system design including site surveying, code research, system layout, permitting and plan review. Julian has completed projects for a variety of industries with emphasis on commercial, education, healthcare and multi-family residential structures. Julian holds a NICET Level II Certification in Fire Alarm Systems and is an active member of NFPA.
