Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, visitor management in a healthcare setting is more important than ever before. To assist healthcare facility managers through this unprecedented time, ASIS recently interviewed Telgian Engineering & Consulting security expert Lauris Freidenfelds for its Best Practices: Healthcare Security supplement to Security Management magazine.
As the former the security director of the Rush University Medical Center in Chicago, Freidenfelds undertook a multiyear project to completely revamp how the hospital approached visitor management.
“A robust and well thought out visitor management program is essential and should be included in every hospital,” says Freidenfelds. “This is an effective security tool for the healthcare sector, where security professionals must manage a wide range of situations.”
Now a Senior Project Manager for fire protection, life safety, and security industry leader Telgian Engineering & Consulting, Freidenfelds is responsible for the project management of complex projects, focusing on emergency management and security within the healthcare sector. His 40+ years of experience include comprehensive knowledge of operational security, technology and emergency management programs. In addition, Freidenfelds has direct experience with emergency management personnel and operations including planning, organizing, and directing security programs and activities, as well as with the coordination and development of disaster preparedness plans, and the preparation for, mitigation of, and recovery from hazards and disasters.
Nationally recognized for his industry expertise, he also has provided security consulting for some of the country’s most recognizable facilities, from the Mayo Foundation, to Memorial Hermann Hospitals, to University of Chicago Hospitals and US Veteran’s Administration Hospitals, plus more.
