Certified Fire Protection Specialist (CFPS) Primer Course

Telgian’s Vice President, Account Management Ralph Bless will conduct a two-day Certified Fire Protection Specialist (CFPS) primer course during NFPA Classroom Training WeekAs part of National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) Classroom Training Week, Ralph Bless, Telgian’s VP, Account Management, will conduct a two-day Certified Fire Protection Specialist (CFPS) Primer Course in Durham, NC on November 5 and 6, 2018. The course is part of a week-long training offering by NFPA. In addition to the Certified Fire Protection Specialist (CFPS) primer course, NFPA Classroom Training Week includes classroom training for:

  • NFPA 70E, Electrical Safety in the Workplace
  • NFPA 101, Life Safety Code Essentials
  • NFPA 101, Life Safety Code Essentials for Health Care Occupancies
  • NFPA 101 and NFPA 80 Fire Door Inspection for Health Care Facilities
  • NFPA 99, Health Care Facilities Code


According to the NFPA, the Certified Fire Protection Specialist (CFPS) credential was created in 1971 for the purpose of documenting competency and offering professional recognition for individuals involved in curtailing fire loss, both physical and financial.

Since then, CFPS has been awarded to more than 4,000 people who have demonstrated a level of professionalism through applied work experience, related education opportunities, and successful completion of a certification examination. This group includes risk managers, loss control specialists, fire officers, fire marshals, fire inspectors, safety managers, fire protection consultants, designers, engineers, code enforcers, facility managers and others who work with the application of fire safety, protection, prevention and suppression technologies.

About the Presenter: Ralph E. Bless, Jr., PE, CFPS, SET

Ralph Bless has more than 30 years of fire protection engineering experience in areas that include system design, consulting, risk analysis, and code review. He has served as a liaison between customers, authorities having jurisdiction, and contractors/suppliers, and has expertise in the design of water-based fire suppression systems, as well as fire and smoke modeling.

He is a Professional Engineer licensed in six states and is a Level IV NICET senior certified fire sprinkler layout technician. Bless also holds several state and national certifications including that of Certified Fire Protection Specialist. Currently, he serves on three NFPA code committees.
