Fire Protection Engineering Support for Special Hazard Occupancies
Cobb County Fire Marshal’s Office requires certain facilities with hazardous materials to complete the Special Hazard Occupancy process and obtain an annual Fire Operational Permit.
Our fire protection engineering team helps owners, tenants, and property managers understand the requirements, prepare the required documentation, and coordinate with Cobb County through permit issuance.
Latest Process
- Retain a Georgia-licensed Fire Protection Professional Engineer.
- Complete the Fire and Life Safety Systems Status Report (FLSSSR) with the help of a registered fire protection engineer.
*Note: A review or assessment will be required if an initial evaluation was not completed, which would include:- Review hazardous materials and Maximum Allowable Quantities.
- Prepare or update the Hazardous Materials Management Plan and Hazardous Materials Inventory Statement.
- Evaluate fire suppression, fire alarm, notification, egress, and related life safety systems.
- Submit the required documents through Cobb County’s Accela Citizen Access Portal.
- Address Fire Marshal comments or prepare a Compliance Improvement Plan if improvements are necessary.
- Receive the annual Fire Operational Permit once the report or compliance plan is accepted. The fire operational permit needs to be renewed annually with the Cobb County Fire Marshal’s Office.
