Russell Leavitt recently shared his fire protection expertise regarding winterization of fire sprinkler systems with Porch.com for the article “Ask the Pros: Expert Advice for Homeowners About Fire Safety.” Protection from freezing temperatures is the number one concern regarding seasonal preparation for both wet-pipe and dry-pipe systems. And, he offers recommendations for both types of systems to ensure that they are not damaged or rendered inoperable due to freezing temperatures.

With almost four decades of industry experience, Leavitt has long been recognized for his expertise, which he shares as a sought-after author, speaker and presenter. He is the Executive Chairman of the fire protection, life safety and security industry leader Telgian, as well as the 1st Vice Chair of the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA).  As an advocate for progress in the fire protection industry, Leavitt is a Principal Member of the NFPA 13 Technical Committee for Fire Sprinkler System Discharge Criteria, the NFPA Technical Committee for Installation, NFPA 3 and NFPA 4. He also represents NFPA 13 on the Technical Committee for NFPA 909 (Code for the Protection of Cultural Resource Properties) and 914 (Code for the Protection of Historic Structures).
