Events & News

NFPA 25 2nd Draft Technical Committee includes Telgian Experts Tracey Bellamy and Russ Leavitt recently attended the NFPA 25 Standard for the Inspection, Testing, and Maintenance of Water-based Fire Protection Systems  2nd Draft Technical Committee meeting in Tampa, Florida.  The committee addressed public comments, which were received pursuant to the committee actions for revising the 2020 edition of the standard.

Important issues discussed included fire pump testing, automated testing of system components, system tagging programs, and reporting requirements.  The 2nd Draft Technical Committee Meeting determines what comments will be formally balloted by the committee, which will result in the final draft for the 2020 edition.  The balloting must take place prior to January 9th of 2019 and the final draft will be posted for public viewing no later than January 23rd.

NFPA 25 is a widely adopted standard, but often misunderstood or misinterpreted.   Its purpose is to ensure that water-based systems operate where a fire occurs with the goal of providing a reasonable degree of life and property protection. Telgian provides ITM services along with training for building owners, enforcers, and contractors on the proper application and use of the standard.

When asked about his involvement on the technical committee, Bellamy explains, “Serving on the NFPA 25 technical committee provides an extraordinary insight into the interests of the various stakeholders affected by the standard.  We are able to assist our customers in their compliance needs and help them work with the local authorities and service providers, to ensure that they are receiving the most cost-effective benefit of complying with the requirements of the document.”
