Fire Safety Systems Technology Gets SmartDuring a fire event, dependable communication is critical. One significant fire protection industry change is the rapid decrease in the use of telephone lines for central station monitoring, as the traditional POTS (Plain Old Telephone Service) is phased out. Today, cellular and IP communicators are the most commonly used communications technologies. This change to fire safety systems technology is discussed in the recent A&S magazine article, “The new technologies making fire safety systems smarter,” which includes insight from Telgian Engineering & Consulting’s Project Manager Ray Dotts.

A NICET Level IV Certified fire protection industry expert with nearly over four decades of experience in fire alarm planning, installation and design experience, Dotts has conducted large-scale fire alarm programs and project endeavors for all levels of commercial, educational, hospitality and multi-residential buildings and facilities.  Over the course of his career, he has performed system installation, service, design, plan review and commissioning of fire alarm systems. In addition, his background includes extensive knowledge of burglar alarms, fire safety systems technology, fire alarms, CCTV, access control, and home security systems.

As a speaker and presenter, he shares this experience with a wide range of associations and organizations such as Washtenaw County Home Builders Association, Michigan Burglar and Fire Alarm Association, City of Ann Arbor Building Department, IBEW local 58 & 252, and Schoolcraft Community College.
