Fire Alarm Systems and the Codes that Require Them Seminar

Events & News

Telgian’s Warren Burns will a conduct a “Fire Alarm Systems and the Codes that Require Them” SeminarTelgian Corporation’s Regional Practice Leader Warren Burns will conduct live classroom training at the Vancouver Fire Department Station in Vancouver, WA on January 30, 2019. His course, “Fire Alarm Systems and the Codes that Require Them,” is an important 8-hour seminar that will cover basic fire alarm systems, including initiating and notification devices and the fundamental requirements that apply to most systems.

“The significance of fire alarms in the life safety equation is widely accepted. Early detection of a fire incident, and early warning of a building’s occupants, can dramatically increase the survivability of a hostile fire environment,” says Burns.

In addition to an overview of basic fire alarm systems, Burns will review which codes require fire alarm systems and where the requirements are located. And, an exercise will be conducted establishing the codes required for a fire alarm system in various occupancies.

This session will also explain how the various codes work in concert and complement each other, from the design phase all the way through installation. “Knowing how to correctly install and test these fire alarm systems, when they are required to be installed, and how they integrate with the rest of a building’s life safety elements can make a significant difference,” Burns explains. “The codes and standards regarding fire alarms evolve regularly; our knowledge and application of these changes will increase the chance of survival when needed.”

This course will be presented in a directing and discussion style of teaching. A clear and detailed presentation of the content will be given with the aid of PowerPoint presentation slides. Group discussion is encouraged to facilitate understanding, and practical application exercises will be given where applicable to the content. A review test will also given to measure learning and retention.

Each participant registered, who completes the sign-in sheet and attends the full training session will receive a Certificate of Completion. This certificate will include the participants name, training subject, date, number of training hours completed and the Fire Smarts name, address and phone number.

Certificates comply with International Code Council (ICC) CEU requirements. This course is International Code Council (ICC) approved for 0.8 CEU’s.  Certificates can also be used as supporting documentation for CPD points required for National Institute for Certification in Engineering Technologies (NICET) certification. This applies to the “Additional Education” section of NICET Policy #30 on Continuing Professional Development that allows for CPD points for education to advance, broaden and enhance technical knowledge and job skills.
