Events & News

Egress Safety: Fire Doors and Egress Doors webinarFire Smarts, in partnership with Telgian, provides a series of informative monthly training webinars taught by Telgian fire protection experts who educate on specific areas of fire protection systems. Recent examples include introductory webinars on Emergency Communication Systems, Fire Safety and Extinguisher Use, and Fire Alarm System Communication. The January 17 egress safety webinar will discuss why fire doors and egress doors are critical safety components in need of ongoing inspection and maintenance in order to function properly.  Fire doors are intended to reduce the spread of fire and smoke, while egress doors are designed to allow occupants safe exit during an emergency.

This webinar will be based on NFPA 101: Life Safety Code and NFPA 80: Standard for Fire Doors and Other Opening Protectives and will provide an overview of what doors are required to be inspected for fire-rated assemblies and egress doors.  General inspection provisions will be covered including those that specifically apply to healthcare occupancies.  Participants will learn functional requirements for fire doors and egress doors as well as be able to identify points applicable to performing an inspection.

Learning Objectives:

  • Understand the basic functional requirements for fire doors and egress doors,
  • Learn how to identify and locate which doors within a facility are required to be inspected, and
  • Determine required inspection frequencies and procedures.
