The NFPA announced previously elected officers and new members this week at its conference and expo in Las Vegas, Nevada. As a member of NFPA since 1990, Leavitt has played an active role in the code and standards development process. “Russ Leavitt’s appointment to the NFPA Board of Directors is the culmination of a career dedicated to public education, training and his dedication to fire life safety.  His appointment will be a benefit to the NFPA as well as the fire protection community as a whole,” said Bob Caputo, senior member of NFPA’s faculty and professional development training program and widely respected industry professional. “I am proud to have shared our many years of friendship and professional interaction with Russ and I know I’m one of many in our industry who believe his appointment will help NFPA achieve its goals and mission as we enter a new era.”

Leavitt has been instrumental in Telgian’s growth since joining the company in 1991, and served as chairman of the board and chief executive officer of Telgian from 2006 until 2009. Currently, he serves as executive chairman and board member with responsibility for long-range strategic planning, human resources and legal.

“It is a true honor to have the opportunity to serve on the NFPA Board of Directors,” said Leavitt. “I look forward to working with the members of the board to advance the mission of the world’s leading advocate of fire prevention and authoritative source on public safety.”
