Telgian Celebrates Silver Anniversary – On November 22, 2010 Telgian Corporation will celebrate 25 years of excellence in the fire protection, life safety and security industry. Associates will gather in Telgian locations across North America to hear the Telgian executive Leadership Team speak about the vision that got them through the past 25 years, as well as exciting plans for the company’s next stage of service and growth. The celebration will be complete with silver-gilded festivities and a commemorative token for each associate.
Over the past 25 years, the company has undergone considerable changes in order to remain a leading force in the fire protection and life safety industry. It all began in 1985 when Bill Tomes formed Tomes and Associates to share the knowledge and experience he gained after years of leading the San Diego Fire Prevention Bureau. Bill served as a national expert on Building and Fire Codes and taught code seminars in 42 States across the US.
Tomes soon became a consultant for the Home Depot, Central Sprinkler, Good Year and other well known corporations and respected associations. In 1988, Assistant Chief of the San Diego Fire Dept., Chuck Van Rickley, joined the company and soon the name was changed to Tomes, Van Rickley and Associates. In 1990, after graduating from Brown University, Jim Tomes joined and immediately made a positive impact in the growth of the company. In 1991, another partnership was formed with Fire Design Group, adding the expertise and industry leadership of Russ Leavitt and Bill Holden to the emerging company. The name was changed to TVA Fire & Life Safety and became the go-to fire protection provider for big box warehouse stores that were beginning to populate the nation.
Growth remained steady through the years due to the unique practice of advocacy and unbiased consulting. Telgian’s client-partners guided the company’s growth with each request, yielding new solutions and capabilities with every project. What began as a fire code consulting service emerged to offer the full range of fire protection and life safety expertise. Today, the goal of each division is the same – to partner with clients and find effective solutions to their fire and life safety needs.
In 2001, Fire Materials Group was formed to focus on construction and maintenance services. Then, in 2007, the leadership saw an opportunity to streamline and centralize for greater efficiency. The two companies merged to become Telgian Corporation and the next chapter of innovation was launched.
Today, Telgian Corporation offers a full range of services from system design, engineering and construction management to testing and inspection maintenance and loss control surveys. Telgian associates serve on standard making and code committees, from National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) Committees, to International Code Council (ICC), to American National Standards Institute (ANSI) and International Organization for Standardization (ISO) Section, utilizing decades of expertise to create and refine fire protection codes and ensure the utmost level of safety is implemented in today’s buildings.
